The Sonoran Trail is 2.6 miles in length and has trailheads at the Dixie Mine Trail within McDowell Mountain Park and at the northern end of the Promenade Trail (in the Preserve). The trail length within the park is .90 miles. Elevation changes from 2170 ft. at the lower end where it intersects the Dixie Mine Trail to 2500 ft. at the upper trailhead in the Preserve. The trail is rated moderate.
Several of the trail's strong points are the superb panoramic views of the Verde Vally and Mazatzal Mountains. Additionally the trail passes in and out of nine deep mountain face canyons. The hiker is treated to a variety of gelogical and botanical wonders.
