Organized Hikes

Scheduled hikes:

A current hike schedule is available

The Trail Guides lead organized hikes into the Preserve.  Currently the only access to the Preserve is over private property.  Town administration and MCO Properties devised a plan that allows registered hikers to cross through the developer's posted property and into the Preserve area providing they are accompanied by a Sonoran Conservancy Trail Guide.  Registered hikers will meet their guide at the parking area at the end of Eagles Ridge Road (just past the entrance to Copperwynd Resort).

The walk is a modest uphill journey along an old roadway. It is 1.7 miles to the Preserve and another 0.4 miles to climb to the Town overlook.  On a recent hike, all groups covered this distance in less than one hour. One group spotted a large desert tortoise on the Overlook Trail.

Every hiker must register, by signing a release form, before beginning the hike.  Release forms will be provided at the trailhead by the Trail Guide. As part of registration all individuals will be given a copy of the rules and regulations for the preserve as found in Fountain Hills Town Code, Sect. 9-5-3 to read at the time of registration.

All events will leave from the end of Eagle Ridge Dr. unless otherwise indicated.

Note that start and finish times may vary depending on specific themes (e.g., photo shoot, picnic lunch, plant recognition, etc.).

Two enthusiastic groups of hikers led by Roy and Bev Kinsey and Bob Ellis hiked into the Preserve.  It was a beautiful day and all the hikers greatly enjoyed the opportunity to spend time in the Preserve hiking, photographing and talking.  Lots of talking!
