McDowell Mountain Month - October 2005
The month starts with the McDowell Mountain
Preservation Commission's
Open House on Sunday, October 2 from 1:00 - 3:30
PM in the Fountain
Hills Community Center. During the Open House you
can speak with the
Commissioners, view submissions from the past year for
the monthly photo
contest, listen to talks on many items of interest and
visit booths
sponsored by organizations such as Volunteers for Outdoor
Arizona,
Scottsdale's Sonoran Conservancy, the Sonoran Conservancy of
Fountain
Hills and the Fountain Hills Fire Department. All this and
free ice
cream too!
Several guided hikes are also
scheduled:
1. Sat., Oct. 8: Dixie Mine Trail - Meet at
the new Golden Eagle
Trailhead at 8:30 AM*
2. Sun.,
Oct. 9: FH Preserve, Town Overlook Trail - Meet at the end
of Eagle Ridge
Dr. at 8:30AM**
3. Sat., Oct. 15: Family Walk - Meet at
the northeast parking lot in
Fountain Park at
10:00AM***
4. Sun., Oct. 16: Dixie Mine Trail - meet at
the new Golden Eagle
Trailhead at 8:30AM*
5. Sat.,
Oct. 22: State Land Overview - meet in the Middle School
parking lot at
8:30AM
6. Sun., Oct. 23: FH Preserve, Promenade Trail -
meet at the end of
Eagle Ridge Dr. at 8:30AM**
7.
Sat., Oct., 29: FH Preserve, Western Loop Trail - meet at the end
of Eagle
Ridge Dr. at 8:30AM**
* The parking lot and trailhead for entrance into
McDowell Mountain Park
is just before the gate house at Eagle Nest at the
end of Golden Eagle Dr.
** The end of Eagle Ridge Dr. is just beyond the
Copperwynd Resort entrance.
*** The parking lot is on Panorama Dr. in the
northeast section of
Fountain Park.
